Playing Skyrim is fun.  One of most epic parts of the game is fighting the various dragons that appear randomly to besiege a city or group of random travelers.  There is something deep inside our warrior-man-blood that makes killing dragons as natural as carving a sword out of a stick.  I love it.  If there were dragons today, I’m sure I would be out there with by bow or gun or trap of some sort to be the hero to kill the dragon.

But that’s the problem.  There are no dragons, any more...

In 1841, Sir Richard Owen coined the word dinosaur, which means “terrible lizard.”  The idea of a fire breathing, flying, reptile that we have in our mind when we think of dragons is largely fantasy but the truth is, Dragons were Dinosaurs.  And the other amazing truth is, dragons lived not that long ago on the earth.  The myth the dinosaurs lived and died millions of years ago is all but debunked and broken.  According to the Bible, science, and anthropology, the best evidence is that dragons have become extinct in the last 1,000 years of human history.  And there is quite a bit of evidence that there are still some stragglers out there hidden in some of the deepest darkest jungles and lakes of the world.

So, why did they become extinct?  Because of Skyrim.  Well, actually there are a few reasons but one of them is the hero reputation you gain which is the same as when we fight a dragon in Skyrim.  All through the dark ages the hero who slayed the dragon was revered.  Beowulf apparently killed a dragon by pulling his front arms off (beast-mode).    Other reasons include change in climate and diet, they were a good source of food, and they were a menace.

So, I thought I would encourage you all to study up on the true history of dragons and become equipped to use something like Skyrim to share the truth of God’s Word and ultimately, the Gospel of Peace to all who would listen.
